I’m not sure if you consider this a broad question or not, if so I’m very sorry. Anyway, I’m half black and half white.. And honestly possibly a little Asian but I’m not too sure about that. (Long story).
My hair is long, thick, coarse, curly, dry, frizzy and horrible. My hair is ALWAYS in a bun and I don’t like it but it keeps my hair tame and out of the way. I don’t like leaving it up all the time but I don’t know what else to do. My hair looks great down when its wet but as soon as it dries it poofs up and looks horrible and I hate that. I don’t like “big” hair if you know what I mean.
Anyway, my question is if you know of hairstyles I can do at home that can maybe keep my hair down without it poufing and frizzing? Or any hair products that will help me achieve this?
I’m sorry if its too broad or its too long, I just wanted to give you enough information. If you need a picture I can do that. Thank you so much in advance for you time and consideration. I would sincerely appreciate it!

Hi Rianna, don’t worry this question isn’t too broad at all. You gave me lot’s of great details to work with.
It sounds like you have some epic hair! Blended ethnicity hair, although beautiful, can be challenging. Do you use the products on your mom’s shelf, or your dad’s? Half African, half European hair often has it’s own obstacle. The texture of African hair, with the density of European hair. It’s hard to rock many of the natural black styles when your hair is limper. It’s hard to maintain a smooth European blow-out when you have African texture. Good news, I have the perfect easy style for you.
Braids. Braids are wonderful! There’s no heat styling, and you can literally wake up, and walk out the door with gorgeous hair. Humidity be damned! Although I’m pale enough to blend into a snowbank, I totally get my hair braided every few years. You have so many options! Big fat Solange Knowles braids, tiny Brandy braids, long, short, you can weave in highlights, the possibilities are almost endless. Also, braids aren’t just for wearing down. You can do so many gorgeous updos with braids in a matter of minutes. Did you see Beyoncé in Cuba? She might have been wearing a bun, but what a bun!
If braids aren’t your thing, I would ask you to reconsider your position on “big hair”. Big is so very beautiful. Do me a favour and Google image “natural mixed race hair”. You can see that wearing it huge can look amazing, regardless of curl degree. Most importantly, experiment and have fun. You have a unique hair voyage, enjoy exploring!
