Hi. So I have really thick, straight hair. I really want to do a side braid but it won’t stay because of my layers. Almost a quarter of my hair falls of the braid. Please help!
P.S. I have tried bobby pins… they aren’t working! – Navya
Hi Navya,
Layered hair can be challenging to braid, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve that could help.
First, try French braiding. Short hair can easily fit into a French braid, while a regular braid might leave strands loose. Next, curl your hair before braiding. The idea is to give your hair a little bit of extra texture, that will help keep your hair from slipping out. If you have some extra time, try backcombing the sections before you braid. That helps a lot.
Lastly, if the above options fail, try French braiding your hair while it’s wet. The braid will be much tighter, which, naturally, keeps the hair securely in place. Combing a strong gel through your damp hair before braiding should really cement it in place.
