The new year means so much more than broken resolutions. Our favorite way to make a change is hair – it’s quick, easy, and can even be no commitment. Check out these pictures for 13 of the latest hair trends. These styles are hot of the runways featuring upcoming spring and summer styles.
In no particular order, try:
1. Boho Waves
A variation of last year’s mermaid waves trend, this year is all about barely there waves. They are easy to style and add gorgeous volume and texture to every hair type. It only takes a few moments to get the look. Here’s how to style Jessa from Girls hair or check out this flat iron waves tutorial.
2. Bedhead
Another subtle way to add volume for the new year is 2015’s sophisticated bedhead. This isn’t greasy slept in hair but a boost of fullness and piecey texture from the chin down. Get the look on purpose with a texturizing product or rock second day hair (after some boho waves perhaps) by refreshing roots with a blast of dry shampoo.
3. Vintage Curls
The glamour of vintage curls never really goes out of style and are always showing up on the red carpet on stylista’s like Blake Lively. For 2015, the vintage shapes are the same but updated with even more volume. What a perfect look for a hot date, prom, or weddings.
4. Big Buns
Buns have consistently been on trend for the last few years, evolving from the topknot to donut bun to ballerina style. For 2015, it’s all about oversized buns, slightly messy if you like. Accessories like a scarf or bun pin add a pop of color and can boost volume for fine or shorter hair.
5. Accessories
The goal of adding accessories is to add dramatic contrast to hair. Look for metal, flowers, leather, interesting shapes, and bold colors.
6. Braids
Plaits are still with us! We think they’re going stick around at least until the final Hunger Games movie. Lately, braids are worn more casual, messy, and to one side. Although, we still love braided updos.
7. Écaille
Replacing the ombre trend, écaille is French for tortoiseshell. Golden highlights over darker, rich caramel tones creates sun-kissed color with so much depth.
8. Warm Hair Colors
For 2015, we’re looking to flattering and warm shades like caramel, chestnut, and auburn. These hues are especially gorgeous during the pale winter months.
9. Bold Short Styles
The most like Pinterest photo of 2014 was an undercut bob, showing the statement styles that are leading the pack this year. Look for bold profiles, geometric cuts, shaved undercuts, hair designs, or anything that makes your stand out from the crowd.
10. Bob Hairstyles
Short bobs were one of the top cuts of 2014 and are staying strong in the new year. It makes sense for so many women looking for easy to wear style, whether you’re looking to cut down styling time in the morning or growing out shorter hair. Wear hair a little bit messy for multiple trends.
11. Rock ‘n’ Roll Shag
A cool and edgy way to wear layers in the new year is this rock-inspired shag. Inspired by Mick Jagger, this androgynous style is wash and wear. Style it messy to amp up the cool factor.
12. Heavy Bangs
Bang trends come and go and really, you should always do what works best for your face and hair type. If a full curtain of bangs works for you, this is your year. Try heavy, brow-skimming fringe that frames the face and lightens up thick hair.
13. Straight Hair
We haven’t seen this one on any other lists but this style dominated the runways. It’s as simple as sleek, straight, and shiny hair. Easy if your hair doesn’t hold a curl and a sophisticated alternative to the messier trends.
